Tourism in Croatia
Tourism in Croatia (Croatian: turizam u Hrvatskoj) is a major industry of the country's economy, accounting for almost 20% of gross domestic product (GDP).
The history of tourism in Croatia dates back to its time as part of Austria-Hungary when wealthy aristocrats would converge to the sea, but had expanded greatly in the 1960s and '70s under the economic policies of the former Yugoslavia. Today, Croatia is one of the most visited tourist destinations in the Mediterranean, with a total of 11.2 million tourists visiting in 2021.
Tourism in Croatia is concentrated in the areas along the Adriatic coast and is strongly seasonal, peaking in July and August. Eight areas in the country have been designated national parks, with an additional eleven as nature parks. Currently, there are ten sites in Croatia on the UNESCO List of World Heritage Sites.
Croatian currency
The kuna is the currency of Croatia, in use since 1994 (sign: kn; code: HRK). It is subdivided into 100 lipa. The kuna is issued by the Croatian National Bank and the coins are minted by the Croatian Mint. The plural form of the word kuna in Croatian can be kuna or kune (e.g. 2 kune, 10 kuna) because of different number declension rules. 2022 will be the final year for the kuna as Croatia will replace it with the euro (€, EUR) on 1 January 2023. All Croatian bank accounts and credit cards will automatically be converted to euros and kuna cash may be exchanged for euros at no charge.
The word kuna means "marten" in Croatian, referring to the historical use of marten pelts as units of value in medieval trading. The word lipa means "linden (lime) tree", a species that was traditionally planted around marketplaces in Croatia and other lands under Habsburg monarchy rule during the early modern period.
Croatia is considered one of the best European and international tourist countries and is characterized by many tourist destinations....let's get to know the best destinations together.

Plitvice Lakes National Park
Plitvice Lakes is the oldest and largest national park in the Republic of Croatia. The park is located in the mountainous region of Croatia, between the Mala Kapela mountain range in the west and northwest, and the Lička Plješivica mountain range in the southeast. Administratively, the park falls under two counties: Lika-Senj (90.7%) and Karlovac (9.3%).
The lake system consists of 16 named lakes and several small unnamed lakes, cascading into each other. Due to the characteristic geological substrate and hydrogeological conditions, the lake system has been divided into upper and lower lakes. The twelve lakes forming the upper lakes are: Prošćansko jezero, Ciginovac, Okrugljak, Batinovac, Veliko jezero, Malo jezero, Vir, Galovac, Milino jezero, Gradinsko jezero, Burgeti and Kozjak. These lakes were formed on impermeable dolomitic rock and are larger, with more indented and softer shores than the lower lakes. The lower lakes, consisting of lakes Milanovac, Gavanovac, Kaluđerovac and Novakovića Brod, were formed in permeable limestone substrate, carved out of a deep canyon with steep cliffs. The lakes end with the impressive Sastavci waterfalls, with the Korana River gushing out from under the base of the falls.
The Plitvice Lakes National Park offers visitors seven different routes through the lake system and four hiking trails. The park is open to visitors all year round. All visitors are required to follow the instructions on the information boards, to stay on the marked trails, and not to leave any traces of their passage, such as litter, or markings or devastation in any form.
