Atlas mountains
Mountains in Morocco constitute two-thirds of its northern land area, and reach great heights exceeding the threshold of 4000 meters. Jebel Toubkal is the highest peak in Morocco with a height of 4,167 metres. There are 4 mountain ranges in Morocco, as it is the only country in the Maghreb that embraces a large mountain range, the Atlas Mountains.
In the north, the Rif Mountains border the Mediterranean, where the highest peak in the Rif is 2456 meters and is called Mount Tidgin. There are different heights in the countryside according to the regions.
Far from the rural highlands, and within the country we find 3 large mountain ranges:
The Middle Atlas, the High Atlas, and the Low Atlas, where we will find diversity in the regions. The fertile eastern and western arid plains separate the Rif Mountains from the Middle Atlas, which is considered the "water reservoir of Morocco", in what is known today as Taza. The Little Atlas consists of two different views. In the east we find sloping mountains with altitudes exceeding 3000 meters, such as the mountains of Pueblane and Bonasser, where these two mountains know important snowfalls. To the west the mountain range becomes flatter, leaving room for low-lying lands of small areas. The Anti-Atlas Mountains border the High Atlas Mountains in the south, where the highest mountain in Morocco is located, with a peak of 4167 meters. The Anti-Atlas Mountains also belong to the Atlas Mountains chain, which forms the southern part of it. Its highest peak rises 3304 meters above sea level and is the summit of Mount Sirwa.
In this article, we will talk about the characteristics of the Anti-Atlas Mountains, the High Atlas Mountains, and the Middle Atlas Mountains separately.
