Tourism in Italy
Italy is renowned as a tourist destination; it attracted more than 40 million foreign visitors annually in the early 21st century. Conversely, less than one-fifth of Italians take their holidays abroad. The tourist industry in Italy experienced a decline from 1987 onward, including a slump during the Persian Gulf War and world recession, but it rebounded in the 1990s, posting gains in the number of overseas and domestic tourists. In addition, the Jubilee celebrations promoted by the Roman Catholic Church in 2000 to mark the advent of its third millennium attracted millions of tourists to Rome and its enclave, Vatican City, the seat of the church. Pope Francis declared 2016 to be an Extraordinary Jubilee of Mercy, an event that drew still more pilgrims to the Vatican.
The best tourist places in Italy
The tourist attraction is an important place visited by tourists, and they are usually inseparable from it. This wonderful country is full of surprises and is one of the European destinations. long history. Italy Rome. Naples, Milan, tourist destinations. Shopping paradise...
Rome
Rome was called the “Eternal City” by the ancient Romans because they believed that no matter what happened in the rest of the world, the city of Rome would always remain standing. Exploring the city centre by foot surrounded by glorious monuments and colossal remains takes you back in time to the .glory that was Rome
Venice
Venice and its mainland are particularly rich of museums and historical buildings of great artistic and cultural importance. Here you can choose among a wide variety of museums, churches, palaces and villas, Venice historic centre, the famous islands of Murano and Burano, the villas along the Brenta river and the beautiful landscapes the Miranese area, and of course less famous islands in Venice Lagoon.
Floating between the sea and the lagoon is the beautiful island of the Lido of Venice. Thanks to the continual coming and going of ferries it is easy to get to - even by car. And there is nowhere like it in the world. A few minutes away from Venice, kilometres of golden sands offer something for everyone, and, following careful environmental works, a sea that has grown cleaner year after year: the beaches of the Lido Island have been awarded the important eco-label Blue Flag, four years in a row. Venice is not only culture and beaches, let its its parks and naturalistic oasis enchant you with their beauty and calm.
Milan
The Italian city of Milan is one of the most-visited tourist destinations in the European Union, with 8.81 million visitors in 2017, putting it 15th in the world when ranked by tourist visits. One source has 56% of international visitors to Milan are from Europe, 44% of the city's tourists are Italian, and 56% are from abroad. The most important European Union markets are the United Kingdom (16%), Germany (9%) and France (6%).
Florence
Florence is a tourist destination that can be seen in one day or in a week. Some travellers prefer to go for a day or two from Rome to see the top attractions and get a feel for the city, while others prefer to take their time in Florence and take advantage of their trip to visit other villages and towns in the stunning region of Tuscany. Whether it be for a day, a week or a month, visitors will want to return to Florence in the near future.
Naples
If you are still hesitant about the choice of your trip to Visit Naples, we recommend you to drop out of your mind every prejudice and to keep the eyes wide open; Naples is a beautiful Italian city which overlooks the sea, unique in its genre, non-conventional, alternative and artistic, able to amaze every tourist with its beauty and its unaltered identity through time.
For this reason, a trip to Naples is a kind of experience that will give you surprises in every corner of the streets and, mostly, the desire to come back here again. Thanks to its cheapness and its folklore, it is completely different from the other Italian cities: it is sufficient to think that its historic centre (together with the pizza) has been considered as the UNESCO World Heritage and is the biggest one of Europe; in it, in fact, there are several monuments belonging to differents historical periods, streets and alleys full of history and culture, amazing views, a cheerful and living nightlife, an ancient culinary tradition without eguals in the world, a tasty street food, generous and friendly people, and an original and unique theatrical lifestyle.
Also typical dishes such as: the ragù, the Neapolitan genovese, the pasta with beans, the pasta with potatoes and provola cheese, the spaghetti with seafood and so many other greeds which cannot end with one of the excellent typical pastries such as the babà or the sfogliatella, as well as His Majesty, the coffee.
Amalfi
Amalfi, the town that gives its name to the coast, is situated at the mouth of the Valle dei Mulini; it was the first of the Four Maritime Republics of Italy and for a long time had the monopoly of trade with the East. It looks like a cluster of white houses clinging to the rock and connected to each other by covered alleys and stairways. At the center of the main square there is the beautiful Cathedral of St. Andrew, with its impressive staircase, the bell-tower in Arab-Norman style and the charming Cloister of Paradise. The Handmade paper Museum and the Ancients Arsenals of the Republic also worth a visit.
Snack Tier
The Cinque Terre coast (Italian: Cinque Terre), meaning "the five countries", is a coastal inhabited area about 12 kilometers long on the Italian Riviera between Ponta Misco and "Ponta de Montañera" in the Liguria region.[1][2][3] The five countries line up from the northwest to the southeast: Monterosso al Mare, Vernazza, Corniglia, Manarola, and Riomaggioe, before which the sea coast slopes steeply.
Cinque Terre has a population of about 7,000 and is an area of a national park protected by law, in which no construction or alteration of its features is permitted. In 1997, UNESCO declared Cinque Terre and Porto Venere together as a World Heritage Site and included them in the World Heritage List.
Sardinia
Sardinia (Italian: Sardegna) is the second largest island in the Mediterranean (after Sicily and before Cyprus). It is an autonomous region of Italy, bordering the French island of Corsica, the Italian peninsula, Sicily, Tunisia and the Spanish Balearic Islands.
The name Sardinia goes back to the pre-Roman name Sard (Latin Sardus and feminine Sarda). This name is believed to have a religious connotation because it is also used as an adjective for the hero-god Sardos Pater ("The Sardinian Father") from Sardinian mythology, misunderstood by many Italian Sardinians as ("Father Sardos"), as well as being the origin of the adjective "Sardonic" ("satirical"). Sardinia was called "Eknusa", which is the Latin word for the Greek "Hyknusa", and Sandalion, Sardinia and Sardo were also called by the Greeks and Romans.
Lake Como
Lake Como, also known as Lario, is the third largest of the Italian lakes (after Lake Garda and Lake Maggiore). With a maximum depth of approximately 410 meters (448 yards), Lake Como is one of the deepest lakes in Europe. Its characteristic shape, reminiscent of an inverted Y, results from the melting of glaciers combined with the erosive action of the ancient Adda river. This led to the formation of the two southern branches, in the midst of which there is the world popular Bellagio.
Located at the foot of the Alps, Lake Como provides one of the most picturesque sceneries in the world. If you’re going to visit the Italian lakes, you’ll be surprised to learn about the many things to do in Lake Como.
Vatican
Vatican City, a quarter of a square mile (0.44 km2) in area, is a popular destination for tourists, especially Catholics wishing to see the Pope or to celebrate their faith. The main tourist attractions in Vatican City are focused in religious tourism and city tourism, including the visit to the Basilica of St. Peter, Saint Peter's Square, the Vatican Museums, the Sistine Chapel, and the Raphael Rooms. The largest numbers of pilgrims visit Vatican City at special moments in the liturgical year, such as Christmas or Easter, or during important periods such as the proclamation of a holy year or the funeral and election of a pope.
Tourism is one of the principal sources of revenue in the economy of Vatican City. In 2007 about 4.3 million tourists visited the Vatican Museums alone. Tourism is the main cause of the Vatican's unusually high crime rate: tourists are blamed for various minor thefts and incidents.
Turin
In Turin, the capital of the Piedmont region of northwest Italy, sports cars and chocolate are a matter of pride. The city is also home to the Museo Egizio, one of the most impressive collections of Egyptian artifacts in the world. A stroll around Piazza Castello and along the Via Roma encompasses many of the must-see sights. Valentino Park houses an 18th-century castle, botanic garden and medieval village. When you've worked up an appetite, sample casual trattorias for pastas, regional wines and coffees.
Bologna
While crowds of tourists fill Venice, Florence and Rome, Bologna remains relatively quiet in comparison. This medieval university town is charming, historic and fun to explore… and you'll find Bologna's local cuisine is light-years away from the American deli meat bearing the city's name.
